Description

FIRST EDITION. Catalogue with marked prices published by Librairie José Corti, owner of Éditions surréalistes. With collective works and publications by Maxime Alexandre, Aragon, André Breton, René Char, René Crevel, Salvador Dalí, Paul Éluard, Max Ernst, Benjamin Péret, Tristan Tzara, Pierre Unik and Luis Bunuel. Illustrated with 12 small photographic portraits (2 by Man Ray) of the catalogued authors (6 double-sided phototypes on heavy paper).

The cover features a collage by Max Ernst on the top cover, and the "Read / Don't Read" list specially prepared for this catalogue on the bottom cover. Heir to the "Liquidation" game played by the proto-surrealists, this list devalues classic authors ("Don't read Mirabeau") to the benefit of the "outcasts" ("Read Sade").
