Description

BEAUTIFUL AND RARE SET OF 13 ORIGINAL SIGNED CARICATURES Orens, for L'Actualiste and L'Actualiste Satirique.

Original designs - inks on paper - for the famous satirical newspapers/postcards published by Orens Denizard (1879 - 1965) and limited to 150 copies.

"From March 1902 onwards, the name of an illustrator came to the fore in satirical political postcards. This was Charles Denizard, who signed his work Orens, using another of his first names as a pseudonym. It was to revive the art of copper engraving (burin, etching) and lithography - ancient processes compared with modern ones such as photogravure - that Orens chose the medium of the postcard to express himself."[1]
"John Grand-Carteret, a journalist and writer who was very famous at the time, and who was the first to introduce caricature into history books, hailed in glowing terms this new publication, which competed with the satirical press" [2].
